Everything you need to set up your coming soon page in minutes

1 Getting Started

Lion Under Construction shows a beautiful coming soon or maintenance page to your visitors while you (and any logged-in administrator) can still browse the real site normally.

  1. Install and activate the plugin from Plugins → Add New or upload the ZIP manually.
  2. Go to Under Construction in your WordPress admin menu.
  3. Choose a template from the gallery (3 are free, 27 require a Pro license).
  4. Customize your title, description, colors, and icon.
  5. Flip the ON/OFF toggle at the top of the page and click Save.
Tip: Click Preview at any time to see exactly what visitors will see, without leaving the admin dashboard.

2 Choosing a Template

Lion Under Construction ships with 30 templates total. The 3 free templates are available immediately after activation - no account or license required. The 27 Pro templates unlock instantly once you activate a license key.

Click any template thumbnail in the admin gallery to apply it instantly - the live preview panel updates as you go. Pro templates show a PRO badge and a lock icon until a license is activated. The Page Icon picker works the same way: 3 icons are free, the other 18 (21 total) require a Pro license.

3 Countdown Timer

Enable the countdown timer to build anticipation for your launch date. Set a target date and time in the settings panel - the countdown updates live in every template, down to the second.

4 Email Collection

Turn your coming soon page into a lead-capture tool. When enabled, visitors can subscribe with their email address to be notified at launch.

  1. Enable Show email form on page in settings.
  2. Subscribers are stored securely in your WordPress database (never sent to a third party).
  3. Export your full subscriber list as a CSV file at any time from the admin dashboard.
  4. When you're ready to launch, use Send Launch Emails to notify every subscriber in one click - this also automatically disables the coming soon page.
Important: Lion Under Construction sends all emails through WordPress' built-in wp_mail() function. Most hosts do not deliver this reliably out of the box - an SMTP plugin (e.g. WP Mail SMTP, FluentSMTP, Post SMTP) must be installed and configured or subscriber confirmations and launch emails may silently fail to arrive. The plugin will show a warning in the Email Collection panel if no SMTP plugin is detected.

5 Activating Your Pro License

A Lion Under Construction Pro license is a single €14.97 one-time payment - no subscription, no recurring fees, lifetime updates included.

  1. Purchase a license at lionwp.com/pricing-page.
  2. Copy the license key from your confirmation email.
  3. In WordPress, go to Under Construction → License.
  4. Enter your license key and the email address you purchased with, then click Activate License. Each license key is tied to one email address - only one active license per customer.
Note: If your license ever expires or is deactivated, your site automatically falls back to the free Developer template instead of breaking - your coming soon page always keeps working.

6 Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still access my site while the coming soon page is active?

Yes. Enable Admin Bypass Mode and any logged-in administrator will see the real site normally, while logged-out visitors see the coming soon page.

Will this affect my SEO?

While enabled, search engines will see your coming soon page instead of your real content. We recommend only enabling it during active development, and disabling it as soon as your site is ready.

Does it work with any WordPress theme?

Yes - the coming soon page renders independently of your active theme, so it works identically regardless of which theme or page builder you use.

Can I use my own logo instead of an emoji icon?

Yes. Choose the "LionWP" icon option to use an image logo, or contact support for guidance on swapping in your own custom logo image.

What happens to my subscriber list if I deactivate the plugin?

Your subscriber data stays in the database when you deactivate the plugin. It is only permanently deleted if you choose Delete from the Plugins screen (full uninstall).
